Lanterna na dolcu, meaning: The lantern on “Dolac” (Zagreb’s biggest market) is one of the best and most popular restaurants in Zagreb.
The restaurant was opened in 2010. in the magical atmosphere of an old manor. Brothers Tomislav and Ivan shared the same vision from the beginning – to offer traditional Zagreb food at reasonable prices at a restaurant with a pleasant family vibe.
They actually got their recipe ideas from an 1854. cookbook which they found at the Zagreb City Museum. They then combined the original ingredients with the traditional recipes giving you a chance to get a better feel for the flavours of Croatian cooking.
Of course, being located right next to the Dolac market means they’re getting their daily groceries from the market ladies, popularly known as “Kumice”. There’s even a monument at Dolac dedicated to them as they’re the soul of every market. Every experienced market shopper has her “own” Kumica where she buys all the fresh goods. And swears that hers has the freshest and tastiest ones of the whole market :).
And the location of the restaurant is quite unique as well. Lanterna na Dolcu is located in one of the oldest streets in the city’s old centre, in an over 300 years old basement. The restaurant’s vaulted ceiling with brickwork that nicely stands out creates a unique and warm atmosphere.
Yep, Tripadvisor loves them too! Guests praise the typical, tasty Croatian food at a good price and the romantic and cosy atmosphere.
So don’t ask yourself anymore where to eat in Zagreb. Go check out Lanterna and enjoy your meal! For all other recommendations in Zagreb check out our page Running in Zagreb.
